La Salle Lake State Recreation Area

La Salle Lake State Recreation Area

—Solway, MN—

After the parade was finished we headed off to complete our last two geocaches for the day.  Our first stop was LaSalle Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) which is the states newest recreation area; it is also the states deepest inland lake at 213 feet.  The drive from Bemidji was short and very pretty as we followed the Mississippi river upstream – it is VERY small at this point.

Marcus was sleeping when we got to the park, so one person had to stay with the car and Marcus.  This is normally a tough decision because we both want to do the geocache.  However, today it was an easier choice because it looked like this geocache was near Poison Ivy – that means Luke says in the car, and I went.

Putting on more protective
clothing for the hike.
I changed my clothes (to protect against the poison ivy and the bugs), grabbed my trusty GPS, and off I went.

The trail was pretty easy, but it was extremely buggy – I am glad I had the long pants on or I would have been eaten up.  I was really hoping to be able to see more of the lake, but the forest was pretty dense here so all I could see were trees.

It didn't take long until I found the first location – It was just a small Kool-Aid container and it was soaked inside, but I was able to read the next location's coordinates.

I ran towards the next location – It was not very far, but I was sick of being a mosquito snack!  It was a fast and easy find!

Got the card and off I ran to the car!

Marcus slept the entire time in the shade!  Luke had to move the car once while he waited.
