Redwood Forest Day # 2

On Monday Morning we continued our jaunt through the Redwoods and visited the "Avenue of the Giants", also known as Humboldt Redwood State Park.    Similar to the last blog, not a lot of words as these pictures are enough.   This drive is an interesting mix of true Redwood Forest and kitschy stops like the immortal tree.

Marcus and the log truck.

This is the immortal tree-  it has survived pretty much everything and is approx. 950- 1000 years old!

We are now growing Gian Sequoias in our kitchen

One of the family friendly hikes here is around the Founders Tree Trail. It is just a nice circle trail. Easy hike with HUGE trees.

The felled tree below was once considered the largest tree in the forest.  It feel about 15 years ago when two other trees landed on it.  It was massive.

Check out how they carved the tree around the road.

When we finished hiking around the founders tree trail we ended up driving up to hike the Rockefeller Loop Trail.  This is in the Rockefeller Grove, which has some of the largest trees and a virgin growth forest.  This was one of my favorite hikes we did while we were in the Redwoods.  This forest may have been cut if it was for the Rockefeller family.

Penguin went along on this hike but really tired, so Marcus gave him a piggy back ride.

I think Penguin liked it.
